David Zemelman Biography

Dave Zemelman served as the former senior vice president of corporate human resources (HR) for CBS Corporation from 1997 until his retirement in 2000. In that position, he oversaw all aspects of CBS Corporation’s HR functions for its 14,000 active employees and 100,000 retirees. Previously, he held a similar position with Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
Zemelman worked for Frito-Lay, Inc. for 17 years and held the position of senior vice president of HR for PepsiCo’s 30,000 employee domestic snack food division. During his career with PepsiCo, he also worked as senior vice president of Personnel for the Pizza Hut division.
While at Frito-Lay, he was active in community affairs, serving on the advisory council for the School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas and the Dallas Junior Achievement board of directors. He was also on the advisory board of Seay Behavioral Center, an affiliate of Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, Texas.
He began his career in 1976 as an assistant professor of organizational behavior at the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
In October 1994, Human Resource Executive magazine named Zemelman among the top three human resources executives in the country. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Human Resource Advisory Board of the AESC (Association of Executive Search Consultants, Inc). In 1999, he served on the board of directors of Jobs.com, an Internet-based employment company.
Zemelman graduated from Queens College at the City University of New York with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from St. Louis University.
